A History of Western Typeface

We love fonts, type, words ... a bad font can destroy a marketing piece and overdoing it, well is just ovedone. This is a great piece from Mashable with a fantastic Infographic to boot.

Just promise you'll never use Comic Sans ... ever.

From mashable.com

You see approximately 490,000 words every day — and that’s just on the web. If the designers behind those websites are any good, they put a lot of thought into thetypefaces they use on each page.

Fonts don’t just display letters as words and sentences. They convey emotion, attitude and tone. They call out what information is most important and help you navigate through a site.

Hate Comic Sans? You’re not alone. There are plenty of reasons for despising the font, according to many fontographers and font enthusiasts. Love Helvetica? You’re not alone — many designers love its clean and simple aesthetic.

The infographic below presents a history of typefaces, incorporating fun tidbits from tech, pop culture and the web. Do you know what font the Google logo is? What about Facebook? Take a peek below to learn these and more.

Google Apps Reseller

It's official! For years we've been implementing and managing Google Apps accounts for our clients in Vancouver, the Lower Mainland and around the world, and we've just been granted official Google Apps Resellers Status! Thanks Google!

This doesn't change anything for you or our clients, except to know that we legitimately pass Google's stringent requirements and legitimately are up to speed with implementing Google Apps.

Yay us!

Lazy Webmasters

I'm pretty sure the City of Vancouver paid a really, really pretty sum to have their website built (when do Government offices NOT waste money?) so you'd expect that their website would stay up to date.

Listen, I realize it may have a lot of content and keeping tabs on everything can be difficult, but the whole point of a city's website is to bring relevant, updated information to the citizens.

I'm just posting this because I had a curious thought about Vancouver's water supply, how it's cleaned and such, and whether or not the new filtration plant up in North Vancouver was complete.

According to the City of Vancouver's website, "we are building a filtration facility in North Vancouver that will treat water from the Seymour and Capilano sources. The facility is expected to begin operation in 2009. "

This site hasn't been updated in 2 years. This is ridiculous no matter how you look at it.

Free DNS

Here's a shoutout to http://freedns.afraid.org/

We've been relying on their DNS servers for years now (can't remember how many, but I can't remember using anything else) and they are awesome.

And now a moment in Canadian History
